Winthrop University, a public university in Rock Hill, South Carolina, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its associate vice president for student affairs/dean of students. This is an on-site leadership role.

Reporting to the vice president for student affairs, the associate vice president/dean of students (AVP/DOS) provides visionary, administrative, and programmatic oversight to the community life units within the student affairs division. The AVP/DOS is second in command and is a member of the student affairs executive team. They directly supervise the assistant dean /director of
residence life, assistant dean of students (care), director of student conduct, the director of the office of accessibility, and an administrative assistant. The AVP/DOS manages a budget of over $3M.

Qualifications
Requirements include a master's degree in student affairs, higher education administration, or a related field, seven years of progressive leadership experience in higher education or student affairs, and proven ability to manage multiple departments/services, including residence life and housing. Demonstrated commitment to student success and retention, with hands-on experience managing student conduct and Title IX compliance, supporting students of concern, and navigating challenges that may impede academic progress. Experience managing ADA/disability regulations, threat assessment protocols, risk management, and regulatory compliance. Proficiency with Maxient or a similar case management system. Budgeting experience in a similarly complex organizational structure. Preferred qualifications include ten years of experience in higher education, proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based software, and experience advising a student government or a similar group.
